Fashion on Friday

Here's a picture of my fun, summer handbag, sitting on the seat beside me in the car.

I'm pretending to travel to all those places.

Even the newspaper is pitching travel close to home because of the high gasoline prices.

This AJC article details a visit to close-by Rome, GA in contrast to faraway Rome, Italy.

Furthermore, I read about a fancy, downtown hotel trying to drum up business by offering weekend getaways to the locals - one of which highlights a cooking class with their master chef.

Now that catches my interest :)

Staycation is a new vocabulary word for me, but it fits our lifestyle this summer.

What are you doing for vacation?

Cochise Rebuilds

This photo is copied from a current picture gallery at the Atlanta Journal and Constitution online edition.

I thought some of my family might like to see how our old neighborhood is being revamped.

The brick ranch is indicative of a typical home, never having been remodeled. This particular one belonged to the Christians (family name). The Griffins (white brick ranch) would have been to the left of it, and it has been razed. A McMansion stands in its place.

Because all the lots lie in the flood plain of the Chattahoochee River, some of the owners have chosen to raise the level of their homes. The Curtises were the first to do this and they still live there. After 30 years and three floodings, my parents moved 13 years ago to higher ground, but only one mile away and still in Vinings :)

Many of the newcomers have not only raised the elevation, but also have raised the number of square feet.

Here's the link to the AJC for as long as it lasts.

Have you been back to your childhood neighborhood lately?
